The New Economy Network Australia (NENA) is pleased to be hosting its 8 week short course again this year, from 2 May to 20 June 2023. As the creator of this course, I’m super excited to see how participants have engaged with and learned from our course over the past three years.
The 8 week course provides an important foundation for engaging with economic concepts, and discussing the bigger picture of how ‘the economy’ is created by us, as a social construct. In the first half of the course (the first 4 weeks) we explore some of the theoretical ideas about what an economy actually is. With insights and guidance from guest speakers, we explore neo-classical economics, Indigenous perspectives about Caring for Country and managing human economies, steady state, doughnut, wellbeing and community economies. We frame the discussion with an analysis of what ‘systems’ change is all about, and how we can work to create the type of systems change we want to see.
In the second half of the course, we move from theory to real world examples of new economies and creating systems change. We are joined by amazing experts from around Australia in the food, energy, housing and other sectors, to learn about new initiatives and approaches to building an economy that serves people and planet.
To find out more, sign up to NENA’s email list or register an expression of interest in the course, and you’ll receive all the details about how to participate.
